Indigo Dyeing: Make a Reusable Bag

Cressing Temple Barns

Back To Events Artist Clarissa holds a newly dyed indigo piece of fabric

This workshop includes a scone, cream and the famous Tiptree jam, plus a hot drink at the renowned onsite Tiptree Tea Rooms.

Indigo is the colour of both ancient ceremony and our ubiquitous blue jeans. What is so special about it? Where does it come from? Why was it known as 'the Devil's dye'? This workshop looks at examples of indigo dyeing from around the world and how the indigo vat works. You'll be guided through different shibori techniques with artist Clarissa Cochran and leave with your own indigo dyed cotton bag.

Please wear old clothes or an apron and garden footwear. If possible, bring your own small pair of (embroidery or nail) scissors.

You are welcome to bring a packed lunch, or treat yourself with a visit to 'The Barns' - an onsite branch of the famous and delicious Tiptree Tea Rooms.
